CONDUCTING TRAININGS "SEXUAL VIOLENCE RELATED TO WAR: PROVIDING COMPREHENSIVE ASSISTANCE TO VICTIMS."
More than a hundred specialists from Odessa and Kherson regions have been trained in the trainings "War-related sexual violence: providing comprehensive assistance to victims". The aim of the trainings was not only to develop skills in identifying different forms of sexual violence, but also to develop approaches that will help provide assistance without re-traumatizing victims.

According to trainer Olena Rotari, today the identification of victims of war-related sexual violence is already actively underway. Among the victims are civilians, prisoners of war and prisoners of war. However, as the trainer notes, the myth that sexual violence is limited only to rape remains widespread in Ukrainian society. In fact, there are a number of types of sexual violence, and sometimes a person does not even realize that he or she is a victim.
“This is an extremely painful topic for all Ukrainian women and men, because many have already suffered from war crimes committed by the Russian occupiers,” says Olena Rotari. She emphasized that even now many people are afraid to admit that they have become victims.
The training took place within the framework of the program “Standing Together: Improving the Support System for Victims of War-Related Sexual Violence” in partnership with the Ukrainian Women’s Fund, the NGO “La Strada-Ukraine” and the Association of Women Lawyers of Ukraine “YurFem” with the support of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, the Office of the Government Commissioner for Gender Policy Kateryna Levchenko and with funding from the European Union.
